What is an American
military person?
Many Americans
have now failed to realize exactly what is a military person. The communications
media has also failed in this matter. The advertising media that is used to recruit
people has also failed. The advertising slant has been…….money for
college tuition…..free training for a better civilian job upon discharge…… and the idea that being in the
military is comparable to an everyday civilian job. This has been the new mentality
fostered by the higher echelon of the military complex. All of this recruitment
propaganda has been unleashed upon the public through the media. Therefore, the
American people cannot be totally blamed for losing track of the crude reality……the crude reality of exactly what
is a military person.
At that
point in time when a man or woman puts on a military uniform for the first time…..at that point in time that man or
woman gives up his or her right to live. It is only when the military commitment
ends that such person can retain the right to live. That is the crude reality.
The swearing-in
ceremony should include the following passage: Do you solemnly swear to
give up the right to live? That should make many people think twice before
answering. Just as in marriage one would give up the right to live in order to
protect the cause of family.
The crude
reality is that a military person does give up the right to live. It is for that
reason that a military person should be more highly respected. Yet, it now seems
that the American people are losing their perspective concerning the high level of responsibility attached to a military person
and the high level of respect that should be accorded to a military person or veteran.
A military
person or veteran should always feel a sense of pride for giving up that right to live because so many either cannot physically
qualify or do not have the courage to make such a commitment. What is a true
American military person? It is someone who gives up the right to live in the
name of the United States of America and that represents the highest level of endeavor in our
society. Let us not lose that perspective for it is the basis of the birth of
our nation, and it is the basis of our continued existence upon this civilized but yet primitive world.
